Basketball Commits Johnson, Etzler Win Another Title with Indy Heat

Ohio State verbals, in the class of 2021, continue dominance with star-studded AAU club.

Ohio State basketball commits (class of 2021) Meechie Johnson and Kalen Etzler were at it again this weekend, helping spearhead their Indy Heat AAU squad to another championship performance.

The pair of in-state products, who have both already verballed to the Buckeyes, compete together on a stacked club that turned in a winning effort for the second-straight weekend. Indy Heat (17U) won the Brawl for the Ball crown with a dominating 65-36 triumph over Nova Village in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Johnson (Garfield Heights) reportedly garnered Most Valuable Player honors in the event after scoring in double figures and also registering multiple assists in the final outing.

The No. 89 overall prospect and top-10 combo guard, according to the latest 247Sports composite rankings, recently announced he would be transferring back home to Garfield Heights HS for his senior year. Johnson played last year at Andrews Osborne Academy in Willoughby.

Etzler, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is a standout for Convoy Crestview and rated just behind Johnson as the No. 90 overall prospect (top 25 at his position). He committed to Ohio State all the way back in May of 2019.

The Indy Heat also delivered a winning effort in Fort Wayne last weekend, winning all six games at the Ballin’ Under 1 Roof event for a “Platinum Division” crown. Johnson and Etzler play alongside Luke Goode (Illinois commit), Caleb Furst (Purdue commit) and others on an impressive roster.
