Can OU land a recent Washington De-commit?

Oklahoma is continuing to improve on the defensive side of the ball. The defensive backfield has shown huge improvements in just the first six games of the season. The biggest test to date, was this last week in Dallas against the Texas Longhorns. The defense played out of their minds. Will this show immediate dividends in recruiting?

Jacobe Covington, a 4-star cornerback, de-committed from the University of Washington yesterday. Covington was a huge target before he decided he wanted to head to the great northwest. However, with the 6’2 185 pound CB now back to looking for a new home, what are the chances that he comes to Norman?

The Sooner defense shouldn’t be tested again until they face Oklahoma State. Are recruits noticing the vast improvements so far? The answer is yes. Jacobe visited Arizona State over the weekend. Second year head coach Herm Edwards, famous for saying “you play to win the game,” has turned around the Sun Devils quickly under his tutelage. ASU is currently leading the South division of the PAC-12 and are one of the favorites to land the star CB.

OU will continue to push, not only by communicating with Covington, but also by climbing up the defensive rankings. No one wants to play for a defense that is constantly getting obliterated. With Grinch at the helm and quickly changing the culture, the likelihood of landing the big name defensive backs will only rise from here.

With that being said-- Covington, Manning, and Eaton would be three huge gets for the Sooner defense. They are all widely considered top DBs in the 2020 class.
