Sooners Recruiting Update:

OU has been able to get whoever they want on offense with two number one ranked quarterbacks, elite running backs and offensive linemen, not to mention the countless five-star wide receivers. The biggest issue is and has been defense.

The Sooners made a bold statement with their impressive performance on Saturday against the 11th ranked Texas Longhorns. With nine sacks and 15 tackles-for-loss, the OU defense put on a show for the ages. How does that impress recruits though?

Josh Eaton and Dontae Manning remain at the top of the list for the Sooners. Josh Eaton is currently committed to the Longhorns. However, with the performance he witnessed on Saturday, is this enough to sway the four-star defensive back? All signs are pointing to him making the flip to Norman, but, as you know with recruiting, anything can happen.

Although Dontae Manning decommitted from the Sooners, this hasn’t slowed their pursuit of the speedy DB. In terms of who has the best shot to get his signature on signing day, I would narrow it down to Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

With the recent offer from LSU, keep an eye on Edgerrin Cooper. He is a Louisiana kid and with the Tigers in his backyard, kind of hard to ignore that. However, OU did hold Texas to less yards and points than what LSU was able to, so that has to count for something. Cooper would be playing early on the OU d-line if he were to end up in Norman. Although still committed to OU, this is definitely an interesting story to follow.

With early signing day two months away, the recruiting trail is going to continue to heat up. Sooners need to grab a couple more defensive players to round out the top-20 class.
