It's finally time to include Chuba Hubbard in Heisman talks

After nearly tripling Kansas State's average allowed rushing yard total Saturday night, it's time to include Chuba Hubbard in the Heisman talk

STILLWATER -- I understand that we're only five games into the season, but after Saturday night's performance against Kansas State, it's time to start for the powers-to-be to include Chuba Hubbard in the Heisman talks.

He didn't get his first touch until nearly nine minutes into the game against K-State, but went on to have the sixth-most rushing yards in a game in school history.

"I wasn't happy with how it went last week," said Hubbard. "I felt like I let down my team in a lot of ways. Texas obviously played great, but I think I could've done a lot more. So this week I just wanted to bounce back from that and help put my team in a position to win."

And bounce back he did. He rushed for 296 yards, 52 yards more than K-State put up as a total offense, on 25 carries with one touchdown.

What's more impressive is that he did so behind an offensive line that had four of the five guys playing a different position this week.

With that performance, Hubbard remained the nation's leading rusher as he moved to 938 yards on the season. That's 284 yards more than the second place back, Ohio State's J.K. Dobbins and the difference between first and second is the same as second place and 43rd place.

Need a few more stats? Hubbard's stats through the first five games of the season compared to the last four running backs that went on to win the Heisman.

There's still a lot of season left, but next week's game against Texas Tech marks the halfway point of the season and Hubbard is less than 100 yards away from 2,000 yards. Can he get there? My money would be on yes. Will he be in New York come the end of the season? Again, I'd be willing to put my money on yes.
