Conroe Oak Ridge RB McCaskill Taking Time, Still Pondering Multiple Schools including Pokes
Oklahoma State is looking for a running back in their 2021 recruiting class. What some fans may not realize is current freshman running back Dominic Richardson, the All-State back out of Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness that originally signed with TCU, but the Frogs amazingly left stranded early this summer, is technically part of the 2021 Oklahoma State class. Richardson has been a tremendous addition and, like all players, his eligibility clock is stopped for this season. The Cowboys still want to add a back in that class. Explosive playmaker Jaden Nixon of Frisco (Lone Star), Texas is more a receiver, a slot receiver. The Cowboys top pick right now is Conroe (Oak Ridge), Texas standout Alton McCaskill.
McCaskill is a two-sport athlete with tons of speed that runs the 100, 200, and relays in track. He has a personal best of 10.91-seconds in the 100 meters. He is 6-1, 195-pounds and has already earned first-team All-District honors as a junior and second-team All-District honors as a sophomore. Oak Ridge is preparing for a huge game Thursday night (Oct. 29) against rival Conroe in their district opener. In the season opening 18-7 win over Clear Creek McCaskill sealed the win with a 99-yard touchdown run. Also, this season in a 25-22 win over Houston Stratford, McCaskill ran for 71 yards on 15 carries. He also caught one pass for a 79-yard touchdown.
His top schools include Oklahoma State, USC, Houston, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida State, Kansas State, Vanderbilt, and Arizona State according to several sources, but McCaskill did an interview earlier this week with Trojan Sports on Rivals, the Southern Cal site, and he was kind of vague in his recruiting status.
"For sure, 100 percent. As far as where, I can just say they're top 5, for sure," McCaskill said when asked by Trojan Sports about USC. "They're definitely still way up there. I've heavily considered going to the University of Southern California."
McCaskill, like many recruits, has not made visits. The NCAA has banned in-person recruiting either off-campus or on-campus since the COVID-19 pandemic began back in March. Recruiting has been conducted virtually.
His interview with Trojan Sports implied that Oklahoma State was high on his list.
"They started recruiting me my sophomore year and they haven't stopped since,"McCaskill said during the interview with the Rivals site. "Their success in running backs is probably the most attractive thing. Of course they had Chuba [Hubbard] leading in rushing, and Chris Carson and Justice Hill, all of them, they're phenomenal dudes and they have repeated history of good running backs and producing good running backs."
McCaskill said he will likely update the recruiting world on his status soon, but the scaling down of schools won't be too dramatic.

"I'm looking to drop a top 10 pretty soon, and then after that just start working down from there," McCaskill said in the interview. "If they end up pushing back the commitment dates, I'm going to end up committing on the soonest date. A lot of schools they'll either pick up some guys, they'll fall off in consistency, and that's just what I'm looking for, really. Because I've already seen everything from every school and what they can offer me as far as my education and what kind of football program that they have. Now it's just about who is going to be there and try to build a relationship."
He says he keeps in touch with his schools on a regular basis. He has told Pokes Report in the past that he speaks often with Oklahoma State running backs coach John Wozniak and Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy.
