After going to the sideline early in the game, Oregon linebacker Troy Dye revealed that he broke his thumb in the first quarter and had it wrapped up so he could re-enter the game.

Dye finished the game with five tackles and one pass breakup, and the Ducks escaped with a win after the game looked to be heavily in doubt after the Huskies opened the third quarter with a touchdown that put them up two scores.

After the Ducks jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead behind an impressive opening drive from Justin Herbert and the Oregon offense, the defense looked to be on its heels early, allowing the Huskies to take a 14-7 lead. After cornerback Deommodore Lenoir left the game in the first half as well, it appeared that the Ducks may suffer a brutal defeat to Washington, perhaps ending their bid for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

None the less, the defense stepped up in a major way down the stretch and was able to get off the field a number of times, allowing Herbert and the offense to get back into the game, eventually coming out on top, 35-31. It wasn't always pretty, but it got the job done.
