Penn State JUCO Commit Ji’Ayir Brown (CB) Highlights and Evaluation

Maven recruiting analyst Matt Solorio offers his take on the Nittany Lions' latest commit out of Lackawanna College.

Ji’Ayir Brown (6’0 - 205) is as polished of a corner you can find that’s not already playing in Division I. A product of a solid Lackawanna program, Brown has enjoyed success against some of the best JUCO can offer.

Brown is a strong, smart corner and his tape is about as complete as you can have. Against No. 9 Snow College (Utah), Brown tallied 10 tackles, helping Lackawanna hold Snow to just 123 yards through the air.

Let’s take a look at what Brown is bringing to the table for an already solid Penn State secondary.

Strengths

Lower body explosiveness - Great hips and great hops. Gets higher than your favorite receiver’s highest point, and can complete the play when he finds himself with an interception opportunity

Versatility - Not just an off-ball or press guy. Strong in both areas.

Physicality - He doesn’t let receivers run their routes. He flat out just takes away anything deep, and is a solid tackler when breaking down in the flat.

Hands - Good block-shedder even against bigger receivers, and fantastic punch at the line of scrimmage. Uses upper body strength to bully pass catchers.

Penn State of Recruiting

Penn State has shown a lot of press and bail coverage by their corners this year, and have yet to be tested by a substantial air attack. Big 10 league play will change that.

Ji’Ayir has strong eye discipline, and rarely gets caught out of place. I expect him to step in and contribute the second he puts on that nameless blue and white jersey.

Penn State has put together an impressive class of 2020 commitment group, with solid talent across the board. Some of my favorites in the class are safety Enzo Jennings and 6-foot-4 260-pound New Jersey defensive end Amin Vanover.
