PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have announced the winners of the annual Ed Conway Award winners, given to the most improved players at the end of spring practices.

Tight end Karter Johnson and defensive end Nahki Johnson earned the distinction as most improved players at the conclusion of spring ball. Both filled reserve roles last season and are posied to take big steps forward in 2023, according to their coaches.

Karter Johnson played in 12 games last season after transferring from Butler Community College in Kansas, where he made a position switch from defensive line to tight end. He made two starts and totaled six catches for 89 yards while making valuable contributions as a blocker.

Nahki Johnson earned his first collegiate action as a redshirt freshman last season, appearing in eight games. He totaled four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack on the year.

“Nahki really started to flash during our Sun Bowl practices last December,” Head coach Pat Narduzzi said. “He continued that momentum this spring and is ready to be a factor on our defensive front. Playing behind veterans Deslin Alexandre and Habakkuk Baldonado the past two years gave him great examples to learn from and he is ready to put that to use this year.”
