EVANSTON, Ill. — Purdue came from behind again to grab its second consecutive victory, this time 24-22 on a J.D Dellinger game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining.

Just like last week against Nebraska, Purdue got off to a slow start. Northwestern, a team that hadn’t scored a touchdown since Oct. 5, was able to grab two in the first quarter. After a Purdue punt on the first drive of the game, the Wildcats broke off a 79-yard touchdown run and then found the end zone again following an Aidan O’Connell interception to take an early 14-0 lead.

The defense shored things up after that, holding the Northwestern offense scoreless in the second quarter and allowing time for the Purdue offense to figure things out. Purdue was able to get on the board in the second quarter after going 58 yards on 12 plays. The drive was capped off by a King Doerue 12-yard touchdown run after a Northwestern pass interference on third down gave the Boilermakers new life. The Wildcats were able to add on to their lead near the end of the half, making it 16-7 after an O’Connell grounding penalty resulted in a safety.

The third quarter was dominated by Purdue, as they were able to grab the lead for the first time all day. On their first drive of the second half, Purdue drove 76 yard on nine plays. O’Connell was a perfect 8-8 on the drive and capped things off on a great throw to David Bell in the corner of the end zone for the score. Following a Cam Allen interception later in the quarter that set Purdue up at the 32-yard line, they were able to grab the lead 21-16 on an Amad Anderson 11-yard touchdown reception.

In the end, the game came down to the wire once again. This time though, instead of scoring a game-winning touchdown, O’Connell and Co. set up Dellinger for a game-winning field goal. Northwestern scored near the beginning of the fourth quarter to grab a 22-21 lead, and had a chance to make the Purdue comeback more difficult, but failed to convert on a field goal with 2:30 remaining. This left the door open for Purdue. With the help of a pass interference penalty on fourth down, the Boilermakers were able to get into field goal range and set up the kick with eight seconds remaining. Dellinger nailed the kick to give Purdue its second comeback victory in as many weeks.
