The Kansas Jayhawks will be heading to Austin this Saturday looking to upset Steven Sarkisian and end a three-game losing streak to the Longhorns.
In their last matchup in 2019 under Tom Herman, the Longhorns narrowly escaped an upset, winning 50-48 in Austin behind four touchdown passes from Sam Ehlinger
Ehlinger also threw for 399 yards that afternoon, while running back Keaontay Ingram ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The is will be the 20th matchup all-time between the two schools, with Texas winning 16 of the last 17 meetings.
Outside of their 2016 victory in Lawrence, Kansas's only wins over the Longhorns on the football field have come in 1938 and 1901

PREGAME: Longhorns announce a starting quarterback
After a week of speculation centered around inconsistencies and injury concerns, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian announced his starting quarterback on Saturday just hours before kick-off -- Casey Thompson
Since taking over for Hudson Card in the second half of the team's loss to Arkansas in September, Thompson has started every game, leading the Horns to a 3-4 overall record.
1st Quarter
In the opening drive of the game, the Jayhawks moved the ball down the field on Texas rather easily behind their running game, and jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. The drive was led by freshman running back Devin Neal, who punched in the touchdown.

Texas got off to a good start on their first drive of the game, moving the ball across midfield, and looked to be on their way to an easy touchdown. However, that is when things went wrong, with Casey Thompson fumbling the football and the Jayhawks recovering. Kansas would take over at the Texas 35.

On the next possession, Kansas marched right back down the field on the Longhorns, this time behind the arm of quarterback Jalon Daniels. The score would give the Jayhawks a 14-0 lead with 36 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Texas would come out firing on its next possession, marching down the field for a touchdown to cut the Kansas lead to 14-7. The drive culminated on a Casey Thompson to Marcus Washington touchdown pass.

On the next Kansas drive, the Longhorns defense was finally up to the challenge, shutting down the Jayhawks' offense and forcing a three and out. Texas took over from its own 32.

After changing from Thompson to Hudson Card under center, Texas would not waste any time capitalizing on the change of possession, marching down the field for a touchdown strike to Xavier Worthy and tying the game at 14-14.

Kansas would respond well on their next chance with the ball, moving the ball down the field behind a balanced attack to take the lead. Jalon Daniels would be the one to get into the end zone for the Jayhawks on a quarterback keeper, making the score 21-14 Kansas.

Unfortunately for Texas, Card would make a massive mistake on the next drive, holding on to the ball too long and being sacked and stripped as a result. Kansas recovered, and took over deep in Texas territory.

Kansas would immediately take advantage of the Texas turnover, with Devin Neal catching a touchdown on the swing pass from Daniels for 6.

On the very next offensive play for Texas, Card would turn the ball over again, throwing a pick 6. 35-14 Kansas.
Third Quarter
Coming out of the locker room, Texas desperately needed to respond to the Jayhawks, and that's exactly what they did, with Casey Thompson marching the Longhorns down the field for a touchdown to cut the Kansas lead to 35-21.

On the next drive, however, the Jayhawks once again had their way with the Texas defense, marching down the field on the back of running back Devin Neal, to take a 42-21 lead.

Texas was unable to do anything on the offensive side of the ball on their next drive, going three and out and punting back to the Jayhawks.

Luckily for the Horns, they were able to force a three and out of their own on the next drive, getting the ball back with solid field position.

The Horns were able to respond on the ensuing possession, with Casey Thompson hitting Bijan Robinson on the long touchdown pass, to cut the Kansas lead to 42-28.

The Longhorns would continue that momentum on the next Kansas possession, forcing a three and then blocking the punt. Texas would take over from the Kansas 17, with all the praise on their side.
Bijan Robinson leaves the game with a wrist injury, but Thompson finds Worthy for the 8-yard touchdown. The Horns are now down by seven entering the closing minutes of the third quarter.
With that touchdown, Worthy sets the freshman record for most touchdowns by a freshman wide receiver.
Fourth Quarter
The Horns grab a big three-and-out as Bean can't connect on third down.

Thompson nearly throws an interception, but instead, it's only a three-and-out for Texas.

Kansas took the momentum from the three and out and turned it into points, giving them a two-score lead at 49-25 with 8:47 to go in the game.

Texas moved the ball down the field with ease on its ensuing possession, cutting the Kansas lead to 49-42 with 4:39 to go in the game.

In a gutsy call Kansas head coach Lance Leipold elected to go for it on fourth and short from his own 39. However, the Longhorns' defense was up to the challenge, stopping the Jayhawks, and taking over in plus territory.

Texas was unable to take advantage of the opportunity, however, with Casey Thompson forcing a pass to Xavier Worthy, which was subsequently intercepted.

The Longhorns were able to force a three and out from the Jayhawks, getting the ball back with under a minute to play with decent excellent field position.

Just a couple of plays later, the Horns were on the board, with Casey Thompson hitting Cade Brewer for a touchdown, with just 22 seconds to go in the game. Following the PAT, the Horns tied the game at 49-49

The Jayhawks would take a knee, sending the game to overtime.
First Overtime
After Kansas won the toss, the Longhorns went on offense to begin the overtime period and didn't waste any time getting into the endzone, with Thompson hitting Marcus Washington for the score. Dicker knocked through the PAT, giving Texas a 56-49 lead.

Kansas was able to respond on their next drive, getting into the end zone. Kansas elected to go for two, and converted, winning the game 57-56 in Austin.
