Texas football: Young corners can lean on safeties for help

The best safety tandem in the Big 12 will come in handy as two new corners earn their stripes

Texas has quite a few question marks on defense going into 2019, but none of them are at the safety position.

Brandon Jones is a fourth-year player with 34 starts under his belt and an honorable mention all-conference nod from 2018.

Caden Sterns is one of the top safety prospects in the country, was a Freshman All American, the Big 12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection.

Sophomore corners Jalen Green and Anthony Cook will likely get the first crack at the starting cornerback jobs. Both were highly-regarded recruits who got some action last year while serving in reserve roles.

Green and Cook will have the advantage of two all-Big 12 defenders behind them, which should make life a lot easier, especially with the number of explosive offenses that the Longhorns face in 2019.

Both Jones and Sterns have heaped praise on the two new cornerbacks and believe they have the mentality needed to make this an elite secondary this season.
