Longhorns Jump Inside Top 10 in Post-Spring College Football Rankings

Texas lost several key players to the NFL Draft and graduation. But for a storied program, it's business as usual as players will be replaced through the transfer portal and recruitment, and coach Steve Sarkisian has his eyes set on a College Football Playoff appearance for 2023.

The Texas Longhorns' 2022 season was a success on some levels, especially with the progress of quarterback Quinn Ewers and the offense. The team finished 8-5 overall, 6-3 in the Big 12, and lost 27-20 to Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

And now, Texas loses several key players to the NFL Draft and graduation. But for a storied program, it's business as usual as players will be replaced through the transfer portal and recruitment, and coach Steve Sarkisian has his eyes set on a College Football Playoff appearance for 2023.

Everyone is chasing Georgia, who won a second-consecutive national championship last year, and the road to a title appears to once again go through the SEC. But if all goes well, the Longhorns might have a little something to say about that.

Media outlet 247Sports released its early 2023 preseason rankings, but now that additions have been made to spring rosters and teams have completed their spring games, changes have occurred. And the Longhorns are no exception.

As we head into summer, 247Sports expects the Longhorns to appear inside the top 10 of the preseason top 25 come August.

9. TEXAS LONGHORNS

247Sports' way-too-early ranking pre-spring: No. 14

"We're buying the hype in Texas this season. The Longhorns made a huge jump in our post-spring rankings, leaping into the top 10. If Quinn Ewers takes the next step at quarterback, his numbers should help an offense that welcomes back a litany of playmakers. Those blocking for him are some of the most talented players in the Big 12. It's the defense that could make or break Texas as a legitimate title contender."

The biggest questions facing the Longhorns entering 2023 will surround the offensive growth and if that can be sustained for another season, as well as the improvement of Ewers. And Texas must learn how to finish games to show more success in 2023.
