The Red Raiders went down under to recruit punter Jordan Sandy. The native of Australia became the Red Raiders 17th commitment in the class of 2019. Being from Australia, Sandy is a relatively low radar prospect. Texas Tech is the only FBS school to offer Sandy a scholarship.
Sandy hails from the acclaimed high school of ProKick Australia. In recent years, ProKick Australia has produced some of the best punters in college football history. In back-to-back years (2016-2017), ProKick Australia alums have won the Ray Guy award for outstanding collegiate punter.
Sandy’s arrival couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Raiders. Field position has been an ailing problem through six games this season. The Red Raiders currently rank sixth in the Big 12 in average yards per punt (41.4). In a conference where elite defense comes at a premium, every yard matters. With the current starter, Dominic Panazzolo set to graduate in the spring, look for Sandy to cash in on his early opportunity.
