A Jersey Guy and The Locksmith Pick 6: Week 9

Mark Blaudschun

You know you are having a bad week when you need New Mexico State to prevent a shutout. Enough said. The Locksmith was happy with a 2-0.

Anyway, last week's 1-5 mark was our worst of the season and put us below .500 for the season. Time for a major course correction.

A Jersey Guy

Utah (-10) at UCLA--Utah might be the best team in the Pac-12, or at least the Utes are playing that way. UCLA has finally hit its stride under Chip Kelly. We will stick with the Bruins, playing at home, to make it close. Take the points.

The Score: Utah 31, UCLA 24

USF at Houston O/U 74

USF is unbeaten but over rated, Houston is dangerous, playing at home. We think the Cougars will win, but we don't think USF will stay with them the entire game. Over looks too high. Taking the Under.

The Score: Houston 31, USF 21

Clemson at FSU O/U 51

Have you notice what Clemson has done the past few weeks, winning its last two games by a combined score of 104-10. Dabo Swinney and the boys are building up style points. Winning at FSU won't be easy, but stopping the Tigers from putting points on the board will be even more difficult. The Over/Under looks too low. Take the over.

The Score: Clemson 45, FSU 21

Notre Dame vs. Navy in San Diego O/U 55.5

Notre Dame is pretty good and Navy is having a bad season. Looks like an Irish victory dance, and Navy is having trouble scoring. Take the Under.

The Score: Notre Dame 31, Navy 14

Purdue at Michigan State O/U 50.5

Purdue had big win over Ohio State last week, Michigan State had big loss vs. Michigan. Letdown game for both teams and defense will prevail and wet weather and cool temps could make for some sloppiness. Taking the under.

The Score: Purdue 21, Michigan State 17

Iowa at Penn State O/U 50.5

Don't trust Penn State and Iowa hasn't beaten anybody. Neither team seems capable of stopping anyone at crunch time and Iowa has yet to really prove itself against a solid team. Last team with the ball wins? Taking the Over.

The Score: Penn State 38, Iowa 31

Record last week: 1-5

Season to Date: 23-24-1

The Locksmith

Iowa over PENN STATE, taking 6 1/2

Beaver Stadium may be a great venue but it’s not a significant home field advantage for the Lions, who have already lost two home games this year. Penn State has gotten fat at the expense of some bad teams — and the Hawkeyes are not that. This is the best defense Trace McSorley has faced this year — and Iowa’s offense should be just good enough against a soft James Franklin defense.

Clemson over FLORIDA STATE, giving 16 1/2

Just a couple of years ago this line would have been unthinkable. But times have changed — and not for the better for FSU, a seriously-flawed football team. Clemson looks to be laser focused on not taking a misstep before the playoffs and can run the Seminoles ragged with its ground game.
