Florida over Georgia, taking 6 1/2 (at Jacksonville)

Gators’ defense can give QB Jake Fromm some fits – and we’ve seen how mediocre Fromm can be in those situations. How long are the Bulldogs going to hang onto the Notre Dame victory as their lone quality win so far?

Utah over WASHINGTON, giving 3

Huskies have shown to be a tough out in these spots – see Oregon’s recent 35-31 victory at Washington – but Utes’ defense is now controlling games. Having a healthy Tyler Huntley with Zack Moss makes Utah dangerous offensively as well.

UCF over Houston, giving 22

With the pressure off, Knights are back to steamrolling opponents. And you know they will score at least 30. Cougars can’t have much left in the tank in a tumultuous season after giving everything in they had in last week’s close loss to SMU.

Nebraska over PURDUE, giving 3½

As inconsistent as QB Adrian Martinez is, signs are pointing to his return – which the Huskers will need to salvage a bowl bid. Injury-ravaged Purdue has lost five of six and its offense looks dead.

FLORIDA STATE over Miami, giving 3

Remember when this game mattered both nationally and locally? It doesn’t now. Miami showed some life last week against an erratic Pitt team that can’t pass. Seminoles can throw the ball. That’s a problem for the ‘Canes.

Smu over MEMPHIS, TAKING 6

Was Memphis looking ahead to this game when it gave up 584 yards and escaped by a point against Tulsa because of a missed field goal? Maybe. But the Tigers weren’t all that sharp in a loss to Temple two games prior. Memphis gets all the juice being at home and with ESPN’s Game Day on hand. But the Mustangs’ offense has been unstoppable. And they know how to win close games.
