KINGSTON, R.I. - The UConn women's tennis team closed out their regular season schedule on Friday with a 5-2 win on the road at Rhode Island. The Huskies finish with a 9-11 dual match record heading into next week's BIG EAST Championship tournament.

"We had a nice win over a very good URI team today," state Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "Our singles lead the way, winning 5 out of 6 matches. The team did a nice job of dealing with the conditions in singles, finding a way to focus and compete on a very windy day. Both Julieanne and Leonie had wins in both singles and doubles to lead the team."

URI took the opening doubles point but UConn's duo of senior Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) posted their 14th win of the season in doubles play, beating Tiara Higuchi and Klara Nelander, 6-2.

The Huskies dominated in singles action, winning five of six to come away with the team win. Bou and Hoppe led the way as double winners on Friday. Bou took care of her No. 1 opponent, Nadia Rajan, 6-3 and 6-3, her 16th win of the season. Hoppe won her match at No. 3 over Higuchi, 6-4 and 6-4, her 18th win of the year.

Sophomore Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, Md.) won her fourth-straight singles match heading into the postseason and 18th of the season, beating Erin Chratian at No. 2 in three sets, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1. At No. 5, freshman Isabel Petri Bere (Lund, Sweden) won her match with Nelander, 6-4 and 7-5 for her 16th win this year. At No. 6, junior Doga Selen Takunyaci (Istanbul, Turkey) beat Sydney Chratian, 6-0, 6-3.

"It was a nice way to finish the regular season with a well-fought victory. We are looking forward to playing our Big East tournament next week in SC."
