USC Football: Key Linebacker Expected to Return From Injury in Week 4
The USC defnese looked putrid at the beginning of the season. It looked as if it was going to be more of the same from last season; however, ever since Week 0, their defense has looked formidable.
They're flying all over the field, causing turnovers, and looking good enough to be true contenders for the Natty. This has all changed since Week 0, and it's happened all without their starting linebacker Mason Cobb.
Cobb was sidelined these past two weeks due to injury, but they will get him back for their first away game this Saturday against Arizona State.
"These past two weeks have been good to me," Cobb said Tuesday. "I've been able to dive into the playbook more, get my body right and build my strength up. I feel really healthy and I'll be ready to go Saturday."
Cobb has not played since the San Jose State game, as he's been recovering from an undisclosed injury. Although the defense has been good, Cobb has been missed dearly. The good thing about all this is players behind him have stepped up, and he's loved what he's seen from the likes of Resjon Davis, Eric Gentry, Shane Lee, and Tackett Curtis.
"It's been awesome to see those guys play," Cobb said. "Especially when they make plays. We practiced all spring together and all fall. I've got a lot of trust in those guys. When my injury happened, everyone was cool about it. The coaches were fine telling me just to be patient and get healthy. They said, 'We've got guys that can come in behind you and ball.' "
In one game, Cobb collected six total tackles and two tackles for loss.
His addition will be huge for the Trojans as they will head into hostile territory, and we cannot wait to see Cobb in cardinal red and gold again.
