Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason plays his cards close to the vest when it comes to comments to the media that move outside the norm of the usual coach speak, but on Tuesday when asked about the quarterback play, his comments left open the possibility of a new starter taking the field this coming Saturday against UNLV at Vanderbilt Stadium.

Mason spoke about Neal and what he wants from his quarterback, including what could be taken as a negative comment about the number of times Neal has checked down to the short routes rather than pusing the football downfield.

While Mason stopped short of announcing a change at starter for this week, he did not rule it out and his comments left the situation open to speculation and interpretation going forward this week.
