Score Predictions for West Virginia vs Texas Tech

The Mountaineer Maven staff makes their picks for tonight's game.

Schuyler Callihan: West Virginia 64, Texas Tech 59

The Mountaineers are coming off their first game in over two weeks in which they defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 69-47. In Saturday's game, West Virginia pretty much coasted to victory but still looked like a team that had not played in 14 days. On the other hand, Texas Tech hasn't played in over a week after their games vs TCU and Iowa State were postponed.

This has all the makings of a sloppy, low-scoring game that favors West Virginia. True freshman Jalen Bridges has really come alive since entering the starting lineup averaging 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63% from the field and 58% from beyond the three-point line. I really liked the lineup Huggins constructed with Bridges, McBride, McCabe, and Sherman all on the floor together. Having McCabe on the floor allows McBride to work off the ball and become even more efficient on the offensive end of the floor.

This will be a tight one all the way through but I've got West Virginia pulling out a win and notching their first signature win of the season.

Christopher Hall: West Virginia 77 Texas Tech 76

West Virginia is coming of a road win against Kansas State on Saturday while Texas Tech had its past two games postponed due to COVID-19 outside of the program.

The Mountaineers didn't look sharp on Saturday but was still able to handle the Wildcats.

The Red Raiders have had success with their defense but the Mountaineers hold a significant size advantage over Texas Techs four-guard look.

West Virginia has struggled when pressure is applied to the ball and I expect Texas Tech to give the Mountaineers trouble.

However, a new focus has taken over this team and although at times not pretty, the Mountaineers are finding ways to win and do it again on Monday with some late game heroics, 77-76.
