Big XII Games in Week Five

Per usual, Big XII football had a wild week four. With the craziness we witnessed last week with TCU's two score win over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech showing some defense against Houston, and Oklahoma escaping Waco after a 49-41 win vs win-less Baylor. We also have some good match-ups Saturday and maybe some potential upsets?

Let’s take a look at the Big XII slate for week five.

Baylor 0-4 (0-1) @ Kansas State 2-1 (0-0) 3:30 PM ET ESPN2

Baylor:  As we all look back to last Saturday night, Baylor came within a little over a minute from taking the No.3 Oklahoma Sooners into overtime in Waco after overcoming a 21-7 deficit early in the game. Baylor showed some good quarterback play as sophomore Zach Smith went 33-50 for 463 yards and 4 total touchdowns. Baylor has had it's struggles early this season after home losses to Liberty and UTSA, but they showed us Saturday how good they can play right out of nowhere (except for defense of course.) So, does that game make the Wildcats a little uneasy?

 Kansas State: Kansas State had a bye week last Saturday, which in my opinion was needed. The Wildcats went into Vanderbilt with a 2-0 record and a No.18 ranking. That was soon flushed down the drain as Vandy held the K-Sate offense to ONE score which was a Jesse Ertz touchdown run early in the 2nd quarter. Kansas State did not show much offense, but they played stellar defense. The K-Sate defense had 2 total tackles for loss and a sack. They also held Vandy to a total of 270 yards and just 14 points. The question is will they hold up versus the high powered Baylor offense led by quarterback Zach Smith?

My pick: Jesse Ertz and the K-State offense does not have enough to keep up with the newly-found Baylor offense. BU-44 KSU-34

15 Oklahoma State 3-1 (0-1) @ Texas Tech 3-0 (0-0) 8:00 PM ET FOX

Oklahoma State: The Cowboys are coming off a heart breaking loss to TCU at home in which their defense did not impress. They gave up a total of 238 yards on 52 carries, tallied 32 first downs and a 57% 3rd down efficiency rating. The offense looked pretty good with 499 total yards but only rushed for a little over 100 yards.

Texas Tech: Kliff Kingsbury had the defense clicking last week when they traveled to Houston and held them to just 24 points and only 427 total yards. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders offense looked sharp as well with 521 total yards and 200 of those on the ground. OSU gave up 238 on the ground. I’m sure Texas Tech is looking to run it.

 My pick: Dog fight till the very end, Texas Tech loses in a shootout. OSU-47 TTU-46
