Top 3 Offensive Players for West Virginia in Week One

It was a great weekend to be a Mountaineer. Dana Holgorsen's crew rolled over Tennessee to the tune of 40-14 and that's not even accounting for a couple dropped touchdown catches. It's hard to narrow down who the stalwarts are from an offense that put up over 500 yards on a talented Tennessee defense but let's at least start with the obvious.

Your three offensive MVP's from Saturday are:

Will Grier, QB: Grier was playing in front of a hometown crowd and it showed. The Heisman hopeful and arguably best QB in the country was phenomenal en route to posting a line of five TD's and 429 yards passing with no interceptions. While Grier's performance in the first half left some of us wanting, he and the Mountaineers offense were a tidal wave in the second half posting almost 300 yards and 27 points. Grier was calm, collected and confident enough to get the ball to usual suspects David Sills V and Gary Jennings but also newcomers T.J. Simmons and Jovani Haskins. The short & sweet of Grier's outing on Saturday can be summarized as this: Heisman-worthy. The Charlotte native is the real deal and has only just cracked the lid on what could be a historic season in Morgantown.

David Sills, WR: Will Grier's right hand man and favorite weapon picked up right where he left off in 2017 by grabbing two TD's and piling up 140 yards through the air. Sills' story is fairly remarkable when you remember that this time last year he'd only lined up at WR for nary a quarter of a full football season. Yes, there was a dropped ball in the first quarter which would have been a touchdown but Sills look smooth, fast and otherwise effortless as he chases another Biletnikoff run. Sills may well re-write a whole bunch of records this year if he is able to maintain this momentum. If there is a better wide receiver in the country, I've yet to see him.

Gary Jennings, WR: Gary Jennings might have been the most under appreciated receiver in the country last season en route to collecting 1,000+ yards and (inexplicably) only one TD. However, the Stafford, VA native made a statement on Saturday by grabbing six catches for 113 yards and a TD. Jennings, simply put, is a load. He's big, he's fast and he seems to be very much on the same page as Grier and the rest of the offense. Between he, Sills, Simmons and a cadre of running backs, West Virginia's offense is set up to be prolific. Jennings and his hawk feathers will be a terrible, terrible sight for opposing defenses this fall. He and his guys can flat-out fly.
