West Virginia defensive coordinator Vic Koenning has kept his attention on the state of South Carolina over the past few days, offering 2020 Mauldin (SC) defensive back Andru Phillips.

"It was big time," Phillips said of his West Virginia offer. " I need to get up on campus and get more of a feel around."

The 6-foot, 176-pound cornerback currently holds "Power Five" offers from Kentucky and Wake Forest but left a rave review on the idea of playing in the Big 12.

"The Big 12 is a great conference with a lot of history behind it. It'd be a great experience to play in it."

Phillips also added that former West Virginia star Tavon Austin is his favorite former Mountaineer, adding "I've watched his highlights about 100 times. I used to want to be just like him growing up"

The hard-hitting corner plans on announcing his commitment at the end of this school year and says that he'll be looking for "real love from the coaches and the fans" when that time comes.

As far as which program is standing out to Phillips, the 2020 prospect has good news for West Virginia fans.

"I'm gaining my offers still, but I have a feel for who will be in the top. West Virginia is at the top. I just have to get up there soon to see the campus and how the environment is up there."
