Atlanta, GA - The annual McDonald's High School All-American Game took place tonight and for the first time in over 30 years the Mountaineers were represented.
Big man Oscar Tshiebwe of Kennedy Catholic (PA) put on an impressive performance. Tshiebwe finished the first half with 12 points and grabbed a handful of boards on the offensive end. What many fans wanted to see was his range or if he had any kind of jump shot at all. His first field goal of the game was a nice fadeaway from the defender.
With the uncertainty of Sagaba Konate's future, Tshiebwe might be forced into a starting role or major contributing role off the bench early in his career. Freshman Derek Culver had a spectacular season and averaged a double-double in Big 12 play which is a very difficult feat to accomplish. The thought of Konate, Culver and Tshiebwe being in the rotation next year has West Virginia fans salivating and they should.
Konate, when healthy, is the nation's best shot blocker and it's not even that close. Culver is a double-double machine who is a monster on the boards and Tshiebwe is an elite rebounder, so good that coach Huggins called him "the best pure rebounder in high school basketball".
