2022 DB Keeps WVU in New Top List of Schools, Talks Decision Timeline

West Virginia remains in the picture for 2022 Michigan defensive back.

Last April, class of 2022 defensive back Christion Stokes (6'1", 185 lbs) of Harper Woods, Michigan released his top four which consisted of Michigan State, Minnesota, Syracuse, and West Virginia.

Although Stokes focused on those four schools, he was always willing to remain open to any school that showed interest in him. Recently, he updated his recruitment status and put out a top seven that still had West Virginia in the mix. Joining the Mountaineers in his top group of schools are Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan State, and Toledo.

Stokes' interest in the program has a lot to do with the involvement of safeties coach Dontae Wright who had recruited Stokes prior to coming to West Virginia.

"He’s the reason I have a Western Michigan offer too. I went to a camp and caught his eye, then he offered me. It's cool to know that he hasn’t forgotten about me," Stokes said. "The school has a lot to offer and it's one of the best opportunities I've been given. The staff there is like family."

When Stokes learned of his West Virginia offer, he was filled with excitement and glad to be able to continue being recruited by Wright, but this time, at a Power Five school.

"I had just woke up and my head coach had said Coach Wright offered me a scholarship. It was probably the best way to wake up! I’m just happy to have a shot to play Division I football."

Stokes tells Mountaineer Maven that he is planning on making his college decision known sometime in either April or May.
