Granderson Signs With New Orleans; Awaits July 15 Trial for Sexual Assault

Former Wyoming defensive end Carl Granderson has agreed to a free-agnet contract with the New Orleans Saints, pending the resolution of accsuations he faces of sexual assault.

A jury trial is scheduled for Granderson in Laramie on July 15.

Granderson was expected to be selected in the NFL draft, but the accusation of the assault resulted in him be left to sign as a free agent.

Granderson was charged with third-degree sexual assualt and sexual battery in an off-campus incident. The charges were filed by two women, who had spent the evening with Granderson in an off-campus apartment and the women say he touched them sexually without consent the following morning.

The incident occured days after the Cowboys season ended.

"We felt real comfortable with everything we knew," Saints coach Sean Payton said of the signing, according to The Times Picayune. "So far he has done a good job here."

Granderson graduated from Wyoming at semester break.
