JOHANNESBURG (AP) England won its first cricket series against South Africa in 11 years after fast bowler Stuart Broad dismissed five batsmen for only one run in a hostile spell which turned an evenly balanced third test into an easy victory on Saturday.

England wrapped up the game with two days to spare at the Wanderers and took an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the four-match series.

It's only the second time England has won a series in South Africa since the country's readmission to international cricket in 1991.

England blasted South Africa out for 83 in the second innings and then scored 74-3 to comfortably win by seven wickets.

Broad ended with bowling figures of 6-17.

The series loss knocked South Africa off the top of the world test rankings.
