Take a look at the custom heel scab on the new Sk8-Hi Reissue NYC “S” from Vans. There you’ll see references to the old New York City subway token. That creative touch helps accent a tribute shoe to the late Andy Kessler, who helped create New York’s vibrant and distinctive skateboarding culture.

This Vans Syndicate release—set for Oct. 3—was fully inspired by the skateboarding legend (who died in 2009, at age 49), recognized as one of the pioneers of New York skateboarding in the 1970s and ’80s, for his building of public skateparks and his bringing together of skaters across the city.

The shoe comes in original premium leather and nubuck topped with the same bright blue shoelaces that Kessler used to personalize his own Sk8-His.
