Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic Is Sold Out Despite $400 Price Tag
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic set was initially announced back in February when the Pokémon Company stated that it was reprinting some OG cards, including the first-ever holographics of Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. The set will also have new cards, including some Legendary ex cards and a reprint of an originally Japan-exclusive Mr. Mime.
Here’s what’s in the collection:
- 3 60-card decks starring Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise
- 3 deck boxes
- 3 sets of card sleeves
- 1 two-player game board
- 1 toolbox case with randomizer
- 2 sets of damage counter cones
- 2 sets of condition markers
The Pokémon Community Expresses Frustration with $400 Collection
When the collection was announced, the TCG community voiced some frustrations with the price. Paying $400 seemed like a bit steep and many accused the Pokémon Company of taking advantage of fans.
When you look at what’s included in the collection, the contents are nowhere near worth $400 when it comes to market value. However, what makes it worth $400 is the potential collector cost and the chance to have cards that are valuable to collectors. Still, the community was not happy when they heard the cost.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic Set Sells Out
Despite the initial outrage, it appears that the set has already sold out.
The pre-orders for the classic set went live on September 21 and sold out in under one hour. You won’t be able to find original listings for the set anywhere, most likely due to die-hard collectors and scalpers alike.
This response to the set will most likely make it worth the $400 price tag that was originally dissed. With it being so difficult to find the classic set, the contents will now go up in value online when the set comes out on November 17, 2023.
For now, you can try to get a pre-order of your own at Best Buy or Target. There has been no date for those pre-orders just yet.
