With the NFL scouting combine under way in Indianapolis, it pays to remember that measurables alone do not make a future star.

Behold Tom Brady, whose performance at the 2000 combine was not his finest hour. He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.23 seconds, recorded a vertical jump of 24½ inches and saw a gaggle of quarterbacks hurdle ahead of him on teams’ draft lists.

Chad Pennington, who ran the 40 in 4.84, ended up being drafted by the Jets with the 18th overall pick. He is currently a color analyst for NFL telecasts on Fox.

Brady was famously chosen in the sixth round with the 199th overall pick -- the seventh quarterback off the board. He's won three Super Bowls and is a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
