Remarkably Ill-Conceived NFL Promotion Costs Furniture Company $600,000

Growing up in the Houston-area, I was accustomed to watching Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale during just about every TV commercial explain why "Gallery Furniture can save you money!"

But it seems that Mattress Mack bit off a little more than he could chew with his latest NFL promotion that has reportedly cost the company $600,000.

The terms of the contest were simple: Any person who bought at least $5000 worth of furniture from the store, had it delivered before the first championship game took place on Sunday and correctly guessed the two teams that would play in the Super Bowl, would receive a full refund on their purchase. Seriously.

Well, 80 percent of the people who participated in the promotion picked the (favored) Broncos and Seahawks to win, because picking favored teams without having to account for a spread kind of makes sense.

So just remember, Gallery Furniture will save you money. Like way too much money.
