Friday's A.M. Hot Clicks: UGA Receiver Joins Book Club For Older Women

Georgia Receiver Joins All Women's Book Club, Makes New Friends

The college football season hasn't even begun and I already have my favorite story. Injured Georgia receiver Malcolm Mitchell was at a Barnes and Noble over the summer and started talking books with a woman in the store. The conversation went so well that Mitchell asked if he could join her book club, which consists solely of women between 40 and 60. The woman said yes and now Mitchell has a whole new group of friends.

The NFL Is Back. Finally.

The first batch of NFL preseason games are in the books and the NFL's newest star is Bengals backup quarterback Matt Scott, who puked three times on the field before firing a touchdown pass. Also of note: Chiefs rookie De'Anthony Thomas returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown ... Geno Smith and Michael Vick looked mediocre for the Jets ... Ray Rice had a bizarre pregame interview ... The Ravens offense looked sharp under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak ... Tom Brady sat out and his replacement, Ryan Mallett, struggled mightily against Washington ... Former Colts back Chris Rainey, who was cut by the team for disciplinary reasons, called out his ex-teammates on Twitter.

Visiting Levi's Stadium? Find the ATM

Levi's Stadium, the new home of the 49ers, is set to open this fall and if you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on food and drink, this is the place for you. A fancy Japanese steak will set you back $336 and a strong Belgian ale runs as much as $75.

LeBron Remains Skinny

LeBron James posted another Instagram photo yesterday and he is still skinny. Not to say August is a slow sports month, but a Google search of "LeBron skinny" just gave me 4,370,000 hits.

On this day in 1976, the Chicago White Sox wore shorts as part of their uniform. This, along with many of baseball's most unique ideas, was the brainchild of team owner Bill Veeck. The team only wore the shorts for three games that season and they haven't been seen since. For more classic sports photos, visit the SI Vault on Twitter.

Odds & Ends

We finally have photos of the Cleveland Captains' Major League Night, a tribute to the best baseball movie ever made ... A runner in Brooklyn came across a human skeleton wearing a Nets hat ... NFL referee czar Dean Blandino was caught enjoying the festivities on Jerry Jones' Cowboys-themed party bus ... Shaquille O'Neal used to wrestle naked with his Phoenix Suns teammates ... A toddler breached White House security last night ... An Indonesian family was reunited with a daughter who was swept away in the 2004 tsunami ... The evolution of cartoon characters.

Touchdown Celebration of the Day

This little Penn State fan earned the approval of coach James Franklin for this dance. Plus, his father emailed me the link, and who am I to deny a proud father?

Jose Molina is Really Slow

The Rays catcher took his sweet time rounding the bases after Kevin Kiermaier's home run.
