Capitals G Braden Holtby to wear special mask for Winter Classic

Monday December 22nd, 2014

With the Washington Capitals set to face the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 Winter Classic on New Year's Day, Braden Holtby had a new goalie mask made up.

The Caps' Twitter account unveiled Holtby's mask on Monday, and also provided a little more insight into his full gear in an accompanying video.

Washington will host the Winter Classic for the first time at Nationals park. The Capitals played in the 2011 Winter Classic at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field on New Year's Day in 2011, beating the host Penguins 3-1 in front of a crowd of 68,111 -- slightly more than can be fit into a conventional hockey arena.

Unlikely hero keeps surging Flyers' hopes alive; games to watch; more

Washington is 16-10-6 entering the week. It will play the Senators, Rangers, Penguins and Islanders before the Winter Classic. Chicago is 23-9-2, and will play the Jets, Avalanche and Predators before the Capitals.
