The internet was once a difficult concept to understand, just as electric cars are now. Or at least that's what BMW's Super Bowl commercial is trying to say.
In a clever mix of archived footage and new material, BMW's spot stars TV anchors Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel 21 years ago and today.
The spot starts out with Couric and Gumbel on the Today show circa 1994, talking about this crazy new thing called the “Internet” and wondering what this sign “@” meant in an email address.
It ends with the pair in one of BMW’s new i3 cars, sounding much the same as they did when discussing that other strange new concept.
