Gisele Bundchen retires from runway modeling
World-famous supermodel Gisele Bundchen is retiring from runway modeling, she announced on Instagram Wednesday. Her final show will be at Sao Paulo fashion week Wednesday night.
I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business. #primeirodesfile #14anos
Rumors of her retirement first began to swirl last month. She later confirmed the news in an interview with a Brazilian newspaper.
"Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop," she told Folha de Sao Paulo, according to the Agence France-Presse. "I respect my body, it's a privilege to be able to stop."
Bundchen added that she has plans to remain in the industry in other roles, but did not specify.
Bundchen, 34, rose to prominence starring in fashion shows for Victoria's Secret. She married New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in 2009 and the couple has two children together.
Brady congratulated his wife in a Facebook post.
In addition to her fashion modeling, Bundchen also has appeared in numerous advertisements. In 2001, she was featured in a "Got Milk?" ad that debuted in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
