Carli Lloyd says it's OK if she loses Sportsman of the Year to a horse

Friday December 4th, 2015

Carli Lloyd is among the nominees for the 2015 Sportsman of the Year award and among her competition is American Pharoah, the Triple Crown winner whom many have pointed out is not a human.

The United States women’s national team star is not among those who think the award’s name prevents the equine athlete from consideration though.

Lloyd and the horse’s trainer, Bob Baffert, shared the March of Dimes Sportsman of the Year award this week at the charity’s annual sports luncheon fundraiser, and the striker said it would not faze her at all to lose the Sports Illustrated honor to an animal.

“Either way its all good. It is not really about the awards, it’s, you know, just about wanting to be the best that I can be.”
