Eiffel Tower will change colors for social media response to Euro 2016

If French soccer fans don’t want other countries to put their mark on the Eiffel Tower, they’ll have to make sure they support their soccer team on social media.

If French soccer fans don’t want other countries to put their mark on the Eiffel Tower, they’ll have to make sure they support their soccer team on social media.

Throughout the Euro 2016 tournament in France this month, the tower will be lit in the colors of the team that has the most support on social media, according to Engadget.

The stunt is the work of a French wireless carrier, which will count mentions of each team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram from 12:01 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Whichever team has the most support will have its nation’s colors projected on the tower that night.

The sponsor says it has figured out a way to weed out trolls, so Spanish fans saying bad things about Portugal won’t turn the tower red and green.
