This Norwegian belly flop contest was the weekend’s most intense sporting event

I’ve found a way to make Olympic diving a hundred times better, without even fixing the green water

The world championships of a sport called “dødsing” were held this weekend in Norway. Imagine a belly flop contest, but for adrenaline junkies. After all, the sport’s name is derived from the Norwegian word for death.

The competitors jump off a 10-meter platform and attempt to hold their body straight for as long as possible before tucking into a curl at the moment of impact.

This highlight video makes my heart stop.

Summers in Norway are short, but it looks like they’ve found a way to make the most of it.
