Simms Says Daboll Goes the Extra Mile to Prepare Giants’ QB Devito
On the Simms Complete podcast, former NFL quarterbacks Phil and Matt Simms discussed the relationship between Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll and his quarterback Tommy Devito. According to Matt Simms, Daboll goes above and beyond to ensure his rookie QB is ready to go on Sundays.
“Daboll meets with Devito privately for an hour and a half to two hours almost every day just to go through stuff. Even on the day off, they sit there and talk about the plays,” said Matt Simms. “People at home are probably like, of course, he is an offensive guy, and he’s the head coach. Those things don’t happen as often as often as you think they do in the NFL, just because the head coach has so many other responsibilities.”
Tommy Devito has been a revelation for New York this season after starter Daniel Jones went down with an injury. Devito has led the Giants to three straight wins and has had a QB rating of over a hundred in each of the three victories.
It is no surprise to hear that the former Bills’ offensive coordinator is taking the extra steps to make sure his signal-caller is primed to perform come game time. The work the two are putting in has been on full display based on Devito’s steady improvement this year.
New York is now 5-8 after looking like one of the worst teams in the NFL to start the season, and both Daboll and Devito look like they could be here to stay. The Giants are a 5-point underdog against the Saints this weekend according to BetOnline.
