Hopkins recruit Kerwin Walton trims college list to 6
It's just a matter of time before 6-foot-5 Hopkins High School guard Kerwin Walton announces his college decision.
In fact, Walton reportedly told Stockrisers that he'll announce his choice at a yet-to-be-decided date in April. Walton has, however, narrowed his list of prospects to six, including the Gophers, Arizona, Creighton, Georgetown, North Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Walton is rated by 247Sports as the No. 97 player nationally in the 2020 recruiting class, and the fifth-best player in Minnesota's 2020 graduating class. He was averaging 26.3 points per game for Hopkins up until the season was canceled because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Walton would be a massive boost to the Gophers if he chooses to stay home. With Daniel Oturu declaring for the NBA Draft and point guard Marcus Carr testing the draft waters as well, coach Richard Pitino's 2020-21 roster could be filled with holes, meaning Walton could surely compete for a spot in the starting lineup as a true freshman.
Walton was teammates with Zeke Nnaji during Hopkins' 2019-20 championship season. Nnaji, the Pac 12 Newcomer of the Year at Arizona, announced Tuesday that he's entering the NBA Draft.
