The Baltimore Orioles are more than just a plucky underdog. They are a really good team.

And they are a really good team that can make some team history on Wednesday afternoon if they beat the Cleveland Guardians.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Orioles won their 35th game of the season last night against the Guardians. It's just the 2nd time in franchise history the Orioles have reached 35 wins before June 1st. They had 36 wins before June in 1997.

In that 1997 season, the Orioles finished 98-64 and lost in the American League Championship Series to the then-Cleveland Indians.

The Orioles went through several painful years of a rebuild before surprising people in 2022 and winning 83 games, and they have just continued to get better this season.

Armed with some of the best young players in the game, the Orioles currently have the third-best record in the American League at 35-20.

They trail only the Tampa Bay Rays (39-18) and the Texas Rangers (35-19).

The O's and Guardians will play on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. ET. They will send Keegan Akin to the mound as an opener in advance of Austin Voth.

Cleveland will pitch former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber.

The Orioles will be off on Thursday before embarking on a road trip that takes them to San Francisco and Milwaukee.

Cleveland will continue on the road, taking on the Minnesota Twins on Thursday in an AL Central battle. The Guardians are currently 24-30 on the season.
