New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer continued to rewrite the record books on Wednesday night, striking out 10 batters over 5.2 innings against the Atlanta Braves.

With another double-digit strikeout game to his resume, Scherzer moved into third place all-time in most double-digit strikeout games.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Most career 10+ strikeout games:

Nolan Ryan: 215

Randy Johnson: 212

Max Scherzer: 111

Roger Clemens: 110

Unfortunately for Scherzer, his strikeout prowess will not yield a victory on Wednesday. At the time of this posting, the Braves and Mets are tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Scherzer surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits, in addition to no walks and the 10 K's.

For the season, Scherzer is 5-2 with a 3.71 ERA. He's struck out 58 batters over 53.1 innings. He's got a 1.18 WHIP.

One of the best pitchers in baseball history, Scherzer is 206-104 in his career with a 3.12 ERA. He is an eight-time All-Star and a three-time Cy Young Award winner. He also won the 2019 World Series with the Nationals.

Scherzer's piece of history isn't the only big Mets news out of this game. Pete Alonso was injured after being hit by a pitch and left the game. The Mets provided an update on his health here.

If the Mets win this game, they'll move to 31-31 on the season. If they lose, they'll go to 30-32. The Braves can move to 37-24 or 36-25. The Braves will be in first place in the National League East at the end of the night, regardless.
