Los Angeles Dodgers Pitching Joined Some Serious History This Week vs. Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Dodgers joined some unique pitching history this week when they swept the Los Angeles Angels.
The Dodgers took the two-game set from the crosstown rivals by winning each game 2-0.
It's the back-to-back shutouts that put the Dodgers in a special club.
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
The @Dodgers have recorded back-to-back shutouts at least once in each of the last 14 seasons dating back to 2010, tied for the longest such streak in MLB history. The Yankees had back-to-back shutouts in every season between 1951 and 1964.
While that's certainly incredible, it shouldn't be totally shocking as the Dodgers have had one of the best teams in baseball over that period of time. They've also been armed with elite pitching talent like Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Julio Urias in that time, not to mention good bullpen arms like Kenley Jansen.
The Tuesday win saw Kershaw go seven innings and get the win while the Wednesday win saw a bullpen game of seven relievers only allow two hits.
The Dodgers are now 41-33 on the season and are 4.0 games back in the National League West. They sit in third place by the Diamondbacks and Giants. They are just 0.5 games back of San Francisco.
The Dodgers were idle on Thursday but will open up a series on Friday against the Houston Astros at 10:10 p.m. ET. That should be an entertaining series as it's a rematch of the sign-stealing 2017 World Series.
Rookie Emmet Sheehan goes for the Dodgers against JP France.
