The Oakland Athletics are off to one of the worst starts in baseball history.

It's not just the 4-17 record, which is horrific in its own right, but there are stats that prove the A's are one of the worst teams in baseball history through 21 games.

Some Twitter users found those stats that prove the futility. The popular @BostonSportsInf tweeted:

"Oakland A's.... have the worst run differential (-100) thru 21 games in MLB history. 1) OAK - 2023 - (-100), 2. BAL - 1988 - (-85)

SO it's not really even close AND.... the worst ERA (8.08) in MLB history thru 21 games. Just a mess."

And then Matt Kawahara, who covers the A's for the San Francisco Chronicle pointed these nuggets out:

"On the field, the A's 4-17 record is the worst in franchise history in the first 21 games of a season. The A's have six losses by 10 or more runs. From 2019-2022, they lost six games -- total -- by 10 or more runs. Their run differential, in 21 games, is minus -100."

It certainly has been ugly for the A's on the field, who were beaten by the Rangers,18-3, on Saturday. It's also been ugly for the A's off the field, as it was released this week that the team is nearing an agreement for a new stadium in Las Vegas -- and that the A's ownership is turning its attention to trying to play in Las Vegas by the 2027 season.

The A's and Rangers will play again Sunday at 2:35 p.m. ET from Arlington.
