New York Knicks Star Underwent Ankle Surgery

The New York Knicks announced that Julius Randle underwent ankle surgery.

The New York Knicks had their season end when they lost to the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Despite the loss, they had a fantastic year, finishing as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference (and one of the top eight teams in the league).

One of the biggest reasons for their success was the play of All-Star forward Julius Randle, who averaged an impressive 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest while shooting 45.9% from the field.

During the regular season, he injured his ankle, but the former Kentucky star was able to return for the Playoffs.

On Saturday morning, the Knicks announced that Randle underwent successful surgery on his ankle.

Via Knicks PR on Saturday: "Julius Randle underwent successful arthroscopic surgery yesterday on his left ankle. He will resume basketball activities later this summer."

The 28-year-old has been in the NBA for nine seasons and has also had stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans (he was the seventh pick in the 2014 Draft).

Randle has helped lead the Knicks to the postseason in two out of the previous three seasons, and they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (the first time the franchise had won a Playoff series since 2013).

Over 595 regular season games, Randle has career averages of 18.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest while shooting 47.0% from the field and 33.6% from the three-point range.
