Golden State Warriors Could Lose A Key Member Of Their Organization

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors have granted the Houston Rockets permission to interview Kenny Atkinson.

On Saturday evening, the Golden State Warriors will visit the Sacramento Kings for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

They have had an up-and-down season but were able to finish the year as the sixth seed with a 44-38 record.

On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Houston Rockets had been granted permission to interview Kenny Atkinson, who is an assistant coach for the Warriors.

Via Wojnarowski: "ESPN Sources: Houston has received permission to interview Golden State associate head coach Kenny Atkinson for franchise’s coaching job. Atkinson helped rebuild Nets into a playoff team and accepted Charlotte job before changing his mind and staying in Golden State a year ago."

The Rockets are in need of a head coach after letting go of Stephen Silas, who had been the coach for three seasons.

Meanwhile, Atkinson is in his second season being an assistant for the Warriors.

He was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets for four seasons and led them to the NBA Playoffs in 2019 (they had been on a three-year playoff drought).

Overall, he is one of the best head coaching candidates in the league and will likely make a fantastic coach for the next team who hires him.

In addition, he is a key member of the Warriors' staff, so he would be a significant loss.

The Warriors have won the NBA Championship in four out of the previous eight seasons and have also been to the Finals six times during that span.
