One would think the last Formula 1 race of the season, with the championship clinched, the Red Bull/Oracle team would be seeing things in a celebratory mood.

But not so much after last week’s debatable team orders requesting two-time champ Max Verstappen to step aside to allow teammate Sergio Perez to improve his position in the race. Verstappen’s unwillingness to give up his position has set the stage for a thrilling finish, although controversial.

Going into Brazil, Perez had a five-point lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the points battle and afterwards, they are tied with 290 points each for second place in the F1 standings.

With Abu Dhabi coming into clear view, no one can say how the results will fall, but with millions of dollars at stake, Checo Perez wants that position to claim his rightful stake in the future of his team’s organization.

The ESPN networks will carry all the action and for Sunday, ESPN2 will start at 6:30 a.m. EST with Grand Prix Sunday with the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to follow at 7:55 a.m. EST also on ESPN2.

In racing closer to home, the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly series will have a signature event, the Charlie Powell South Carolina 400, this weekend at Florence Motor Speedway.

Transferring the race a couple of years ago from the now defunct Myrtle Beach Speedway to FMS, it marks the 30th anniversary of this special event that brings the best short-track racers, including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., from across the country competing on a tight 4/10-mile oval.

The racing will be intense with no one having a big edge over anyone and that leaves the fans excited to see such a collective group of competitive drivers.

FloRacing.com will air this race starting at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday night.
