Fantasy Baseball: Weekly Waiver Wire Report - Friday, September 11

Shawn Childs

The Diamondbacks have had Varsho in their starting lineup in ten of their last 12 games while seeing time in the outfield and behind the plate. He only has five hits in 35 at-bats with seven runs, two home runs, and five RBI. His bat graded well in 2019 at AA (.301 with 85 runs, 18 home runs, 58 RBI, and 21 steals over 396 at-bats), where he showed an excellent approach. Buy his at-bats down the stretch, as his game looks ready to add value in all five categories.

The Twins lost their top two catches to injuries, which creates a semi-starting job for Astudillo. Last year in Minnesota, he flashed a couple of times, but he couldn’t stay healthy. Astudillo is extremely tough to strike out (only eight times over 190 at-bats in 2019). His bat showed growth in power in 2018 between AA and the majors (15 home runs, 58 RBI, and seven steals over 379 at-bats). Last season he hit .268 with the Twins with four home runs and 21 RBI. Astudillo should hit for average with sneaky power and speed once he gets his rhythm at the plate.
