Griffin Canning was very good again last night against the Tigers, but fading Odorizzi and him for Thor, Bassitt, Musgrove didn’t hurt at all. Luckily tonight there’s nobody that I need to shit on so lets just jump into what is a good pitching slate.
Pitching as close to his Puerto Rican home-land as he can Berrios has a dreamy match-up against the Marlins who probably are without Garrett Cooper tonight as well. Berrios breakout game tonight? I sure hope so. After tonight he will likely have starts against the Twins, Indians and Rangers. If the Twins are going to win the AL Central then now is the time for Berrios to step up as their ace and all indications look good for Berrios right now. He’s coming off a start against Oakland where he labored early and ended up throwing 113 over 5 2/3 IP while giving up 3 walks and 5 hits. The Marlins don’t pose near that threat with a sub .300 wOBA vs RHP and a league low 6.5% BB rate. 7 innings, 0 ER, 11 strikeout upside with Berrios tonight — so long as they dont pull him for a pinch hitter early.
- deGrom — Yeah, this is a good match-up for deGrom as well and he doesn’t have to worry about being pulled for a PH being in an AL park. That said, I’m all in on Berrios, so if you go deGrom then its paying up for both pitchers and chasing a 70 point pitching night.
- Update … Yoan Moncada out for the White Sox. deGrom and Berrios dead even with deGrom the chalkier option. This is definitely a scary fade, but one I’m still willing to take.
