Prescription Notes for Week 12
--I am confounded how the Giants took their foot off the gas and stopped attacking in the second half against the Eagles. RB Saquon Barkely virtually disappeared in the second half and the team stopped using WR Odell Beckham Jr. After the game, OBJ questioned the Giants play calling and with good reason. However, some credit needs to go to the Eagles for not giving up. RB Josh Adams looks like a legitimate Fantasy contributor and TE Zach Ertz is nothing short of stupendous.
--Reading a Tampa Bay Buccaneers box score is very predictable when Jameis Winston is the starting QB. Jameis loves throwing to Mike Evans (six receptions), Adam Humphries (six receptions and a TD), and Cameron Brate (three receptions and a TD). DeSean Jackson and Chris Godwin often seem like after thoughts. This is a big difference from when Ryan Fitzpatrick was the QB and he used DJax more often. Don’t be surprised to hear Jackson asking for a trade before the season is over.
--The Cleveland Browns offense looks completely different with OC Freddie Kitchens at the helm. The team is now a Nick Chubb-centric offense, with Baker Mayfield throwing more play action passes. This has totally given the Browns a new identity on offense, but it has negated the effectiveness of WR Jarvis Landry. TE David Njoku stepped up today and was a huge contributor—if this continues the Browns will be tough to defend.
--I am going to shout it from the roof top: BLAKE BORTLES IS NOT A GOOD NFL QUARTERBACK! I am not sure why HC Doug Marrone insists on playing him every week when he has Cody Kessler available. Even worse was the Jaguars discipline today. To see RB (and best player) Leonard Fournette get ejected form a game for throwing a punch at Shaq Lawson was embarrassing. The Jaguars need to clean house ASAP if they want any chance to sniff the playoffs again. (NOTE: they fired OC Nathaniel Hackett on Monday morning, but this should be the tip of the iceberg. Marrone has to know what plays his coaches are calling)
--Patriots RB Sony Michel will dictate how far New England goes in the playoffs. If he can stay healthy and give them 20-24 carries a game, there is a great chance that the Patriots make it to another Super Bowl.
--Two things I can say about the Ravens: 1) Lamar Jackson will be their starter for the remainder of the season, and 2) Gus Edwards is for real. If either player is still available in your league you need to pick him up right now.
--I know the Panthers lost today, but I am not sure I saw any better player on the field on Sunday than RB Christian McCaffrey. I took him in the second round of most drafts in August before people got smart and started to pick him in the first round in September. There’s no way he’s not a first round pick in 2019.
--There could not have been a worse (and more unnecessary) injury than Chargers RB Melvin Gordon’s knee injury. Right now, the early repots are saying it’s his MCL which means he could be out anywhere from 2-3 weeks depending on how severe it is. What makes this worse is that Gordon really didn’t need to play in this game for the Chargers to win. The Cardinals are so bad right now that I think they would come in 6th place in the SEC. Austin Ekeler will be the biggest beneficiary of Gordon’s injury and rookie RB Justin Jackson will be worth a stash as well.
--Colts RB Marlon Mack took a huge hit from Dolphins LB Kiko Alonso in the 4th quarter and left the game with concussion symptoms. I would venture to guess from the impact that I saw that Mack might miss Week 13. If that happens, Nyheim Hines will become very Fantasy relevant, especially in PPR formats.
--Outside of Christian McCaffrey, I am not sure that any player gets more out of his body than Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay. He looks like he gets shot out of a cannon when he runs, and he takes on defenders fearlessly. What makes him even more incredible is that he is the Broncos best goal line back too. If we had to draft over right now, I would venture to say that Lindsay would be a fourth round pick.
--If Green Bay Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy makes it through the entire season, I will be shocked. The play calling is atrocious, and it looks as if his team has given up on him. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been barely playable over the past few weeks and the passing game is in huge disarray outside of Davante Adams.
