Fantasy Football: Week 17 FAAB / Blind Bidding Guide

It's the final NFL regular season edition of our FAAB / Blind Bidding Guide brought to you by Fantasy Football Expert Adam Ronis! If you are still competing, this is a MUST-READ!
Publish date:

These recommendations are based on a league using a $1,000 budget. Bid based on your league history as some leagues may be aggressive, while others might not spend as much. It's Week 17 and this is the final week, so spend that money. Keep in mind a lot of teams won't reveal true intentions on resting players until later in the week, so keep tabs on the news constantly.

NICK FOLES – PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – Bid needed to win:$700-$800

Foles will make the start in Week 17 against the Redskins. The Eagles need to win to have any chance at a playoff berth. Foles took advantage of a favorable matchup in Week 16 against the Texans and carved them up, throwing for 471 yards and four touchdowns. The Redskins only allowed 57 passing yards in Week 15 against an inept Jaguars passing attack and 192 passing yards to Blaine Gabbert and Marcus Mariota last week, but allowed seven touchdown passes in the previous three games.

Running Backs

C.J. ANDERSON – LOS ANGELES RAMS – Bid needed to win: $1000

A lot depends on the status of Todd Gurley and based on last week, we might not get clarity early in the week. Some people might have picked up Anderson as a desperation play in Week 16, but he's still available in many leagues. The Rams could rest Gurley in Week 17 to make sure he's completely healthy for the playoffs. The Rams need to win to clinch a first-round bye, but they should be able to do it against the 49ers without Gurley. Anderson had 20 carries for 167 yards with a touchdown and played 51 snaps. John Kelly played 17 snaps.

JEFF WILSON –SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS– Bid needed to win: $600-$700

Matt Breida has been ruled out for Week 17 and Wilson will get the bulk of the touches against the Rams. He had 11 carries for 27 yards and two catches for 11 yards last week against the Bears after Breida left. The 49ers have been competitive late in the season and face the Rams, who need a win to secure a first-round bye. The Rams have struggled defending the run late in the season.

ROYCE FREEMAN – DENVER BRONCOS – Bid needed to win: $600-$700

Freeman will depend on the status of Philip Lindsay, who left Monday night's game with a hand injury and didn't return. Freeman looked good early in the season, but Linsday was so good he took control of the backfield.

DARREN SPROLES – PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – Bid needed to win: $600-$700

Sproles is better in PPR formats. In his third game since coming off the injured reserve, Sproles was involved the most he has been all season. He played 38 snaps and had nine carries for 32 yards and caught three of six targets for 76 yards with a touchdown. Josh Adams played 25 snaps and had 11 touches and Wendell Smallwood played 16 snaps with five touches. Look for Sproles to be the best Fantasy option of the group in a must-win game for the Eagles.

BRIAN HILL – ATLANTA FALCONS– Bid needed to win: $500-$600

Tevin Coleman left Week 16 with a groin injury. Falcons coach Dan Quinn said Coleman is day-to-day and Coleman will participate in walk-throughs Wednesday and Thursday. If he's out, Hill should see an extended look against the Buccaneers. Hill played 14 snaps and eight carries for 115 yards against the Panthers. The Buccaneers have struggled against the run lately, allowing at least 106 rushing yards to running backs in five straight games.

ZACH ZENNER – DETROIT LIONS – Bid needed to win: $500-$600

Zenner was the better runner than LeGarrette Blount, yet he had one less touch. Zenner had eight carries for 45 yards and caught two passes for 22 yards while playing 27 snaps. Blount had 11 carries for 29 yards with two catches for minus-4 yards on 22 snaps. There are better options, but in deeper formats Zenner has a good matchup against the Packers.

KALEN BALLAGE–MIAMI DOLPHINS– Bid needed to win: $300-$400

It would make sense for the Dolphins to give Ballage a long look this week. One week after getting the bulk of the touches after Frank Gore left with injury, Ballage only played 14 snaps against the Jaguars and had four carries for 10 yards and caught two passes for 39 yards. Kenyan Drake played 39 snaps and had six carries for 23 yards and four catches for 31 yards. The Dolphins backfield has been a headache all season.

ROD SMITH – DALLAS COWBOYS – Bid needed to win: $150-$200

Smith is a wild card. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Dallas won't rest players, but it makes no sense for Ezekiel Elliott to play in meaningless game. The Cowboys are locked into the fourth seed in the NFC. Elliott has 381 touches and should be rested.

Wide Receivers

MOHAMED SANU –ATLANTA FALCONS – Bid needed to win: $800-$900

Julio Jones has been banged up recently and there's a chance the team sits Jones in Week 17. Sanu could still have value if Jones plays, but would get a boost if Jones sits. Sanu led the team in targets in Week 16 with eight, catching five passes for 81 yards with a touchdown. He had two carries for 29 yards and gets a good matchup against the Buccaneers.

DAESEAN HAMILTON – DENVER BRONCOS – Bid needed to win: $700-$800

Hamilton has been a big part of the offense the last three games. He has 30 targets and has at least six receptions in each game. He has at least 11 points in PPR formats in each game and has scored twice. He had six catches for 40 yards with a touchdown on Monday night.

Aaron Rodgers didn't want to sit out the season and the Packers played to win in Week 16 and should have the same approach in Week 17. Valdes-Scantling showed promise in the middle of the season and fell off the radar for several games. With Randall Cobb out, Valdes-Scantling had nine targets, the most he has seen since Week 5. He had five catches for 75 yards. He has a good matchup in Week 17 against the Lions.

ROBERT FOSTER – BUFFALO BILLS – Bid needed to win: $600-$700

Foster didn't have a big game against the Patriots last week, but had seven targets and caught four passes for 52 yards. In four of the last six games, Foster has at least 94 yards receiving. The Bills face the Dolphins in Week 17. They allowed six touchdowns to wide receivers over three games before running into an awful Jaguars passing attack last week.

TED GINN– NEW ORLEANS SAINTS – Bid needed to win: $600-$700

There's a good chance the Saints rest most of their starters with the top seed in the NFC locked up. Ginn could still play since he was just activated off injured reserve in Week 16. Ginn caught five of his eight targets for 74 yards and gets a home game against the Panthers this week.

Tight Ends

CHRIS HERNDON – NEW YORK JETS – Bid needed to win: $300-$400

Herndon wasn't being targeted by Sam Darnold much with six targets in Weeks 14 and 15. Herndon was a bigger part of the offense in Week 16 with six catches for 82 yards with a touchdown on seven targets. Herndon had seven catches for 57 yards the last time he faced the Patriots in Week 12.

C.J. UZOMAH – CINCINNATI BENGALS – Bid needed to win: $125-$150

The Bengals don't have many options left in the passing game. The Steelers need to win to have a shot at the playoffs and they have defended tight ends well. Uzomah has at least five targets in five of the last six games and had four catches for 49 yards with a touchdown last week.
